Boston EMA Ryan White Planning Council Anti-Stigma Campaign
Our Mission and History
The Boston Eligible Metropolitan Area (EMA) Ryan White Planning Council’s Consumer Committee is excited to debut the Someone You Know & Love campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to confront and dismantle the stigma that still surrounds the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This campaign draws from personal experiences of people living with HIV, and highlights their individual journeys and the stages in their lives where they needed support and understanding.
What is HIV Stigma?
“HIV stigma is negative attitudes and beliefs about people with HIV. It is the prejudice that comes with labeling an individual as part of a group that is believed to be socially unacceptable.” Use the Facts about HIV Stigma | HIV Basics | HIV/AIDS - CDC to learn more.
What does anti-stigma look like?
“Learn which words have negative meanings for people at risk for or living with HIV and which are empowering. Be intentional when you choose your words and mindful of how they can affect those around you. Use CDC’s HIV Stigma Language Guide to learn how to talk about HIV in a way that is not stigmatizing.”
